Mary Nell Abernathy Purvis

Mary passed away on Wednesday January 29, 2020 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, at the age of 93. Mary was a long-time resident of White Oak, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Lena Abernathy, her husband, John R. Purvis, her brothers, Lavelle and Junior Abernathy, and her sisters, Evelyn Abernathy Dukes and Frances Abernathy Fulton. She is survived by her children Danny Purvis, Kathy Purvis Bevill, Anita Purvis Wilson and husband, Chris all of White Oak, and Ed Cumberland and wife, Clara of Sardis Church Community. She is also survived by her Grandchildren Pam Purvis McNeil, Dawn Purvis Smith, Amanda Purvis Pigott and husband, Nathan, Brian May and wife, Jessica, Ashley May Thibodeaux and husband, Matt, Cody Brooks and Wife, Christine, Renee Cumberland, and Donna Cumberland, as well as 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brian May, Cody Brooks, Colton McNeil, James Nichols, Mike Abernathy, and Matt Thibodeaux.

Visitation will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Smith County Road 540-1 at 5:00 pm on Friday, January 31. Funeral Services will take place at the church the following day, Saturday, February 1, at 2:00 pm. The burial will follow at Merchants Cemetery on Smith County Road 503.
