Otis Ray Davis was born in 1941 unto his parents, Sam M. Davis, and Inez Traxler Davis in his grandfather Traxler’s home at Forkville. He was educated at Forkville School through the 8th grade, and then transferred to Morton. He was awarded the Scott County Academic Scholarship to East Central Junior College at Decatur. Later, he was one of twenty students in the state to be awarded a Federal Scholarship. He was employed for a time with the Corps of Engineers at Cape Canaveral as a surveyor.
Mr. Davis returned to Morton, married, and worked several years for the Bank of Morton. He served on the Morton School Board, Morton Chamber of Commerce, the Bank of Morton Board, and various other activities of Morton.
For about forty years, Mr. Davis raised vegetable gardens and gave away hundreds of bushels of squash, tomatoes, okra, and for years watermelons, numbering from 5,000 to 8,000 melons, annually. He took great pleasure, in taking the fruit around and sharing and giving in a huge area.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife: Mrs. Sammie K. Peavy Davis and three children: daughter: Karen (Jarell) Sheely, and their son: Connor; Jeff (Laurie) Davis and their son Logan, and daughter: Kailey Anna; son: Adrian Davis and his daughter: Emily Grace; his siblings: Talmage Davis and Samuel Davis; and one sister: Bobbie Jean (Billy Harshel) Bates.
Otis Ray always tried to do his best by his fellow man – may God Bless the family and friends and always be with you.
His visitation will be held 9am-10am Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral services will be held at 10am from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in Hodge Hill Cemetery. Bro. Jerry Holmes will officiate the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
