Joyce Burns

March 13, 1938 — April 19, 2020

Forest, MS

Joyce Ivey Burns passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020. She was 82 years old.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Pearl Manning Ivey, husbands Artis Earl Sessums and Alton Ray Burns, sister Glenda and brother in-law Angelo Nebuloni and sister Jeannine and brother in-law Earl Usry.

She is survived by six children, Vivien Sessums, Kristina Sessums, Earl (Penny) Sessums, Madison (Mary Elizabeth) Sessums, Deirdre (Neil) Reyes, and Amanda Manning, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her sweet dog and constant companion Miss Ivey.

Joyce was a fabulous cook, world class seamstress, master cake decorator, and was great at any craft she tried. Red roses were her favorite, though she loved all flowers. We gave her roses as often as we could, especially since she always said to give them to her while she was alive or don’t bother when she was gone. She also helped us through hard times by explaining that she didn’t believe God ever intended for us to be miserable and encouraged us to change our situation if we didn’t like it.

Our mother frequently said that she walked to the beat of a different drum. So Mama, may the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Ott & Lee Funeral Home, 295 East First St., Forest, served the Burns family.
