Leland Vanlandingham, 92, died Monday, April 10, 2017 in Brandon following a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by Etoile Vanlandingham, his wife of 63 years, and his parents Abemlick and Lavada Vanlandingham. He leaves his nieces Sandra Parham and Lisa Hudson, nephew Don Vanlandingham, sister-in-law Mary Breazeale, who cared for him over the last few years, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
In his early years, Leland worked at Henley Lumber Company in Ethel. Later he moved to Parchman where he worked at Mississippi State Penitentiary. For a time, he worked at General Motors in Flint, Michigan and at Stevens-Adamson in Clarksdale. He had a long term career as transportation director at Parchman where he eventually retired.
Leland was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1957. He was very active in Clarksdale Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He and his wife Etoile enjoyed traveling and took many trips across the United States. Leland loved the Lord and and loved his family and was always there to lend a hand to anybody who needed it. He was, as his nephew said, "a fine example of what God must hope for in every Christian man."
Visitation will be 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Burial will follow at 3:00 P.M. at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale, MS. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
