Ada G. Bates, 71, a resident of Morton died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at home. Funeral services were held 11 am Monday, November 7, 2011 at New Liberty Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was held 2 pm- until Sunday at the church. Rev. Paul Smith and Rev. Earl Clark officiated the services. Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bates was a native of Sharkey Co. but live most of her adult life in Scott Co. She was the daughter of William and Jessie Patterson Johnson. She was married to Jimmy Dale Bates. Mrs. Bates was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church in Morton. She lived 10 years at MS Care Center in Morton and made many friends while she was there and was loved by all. Mrs. Sherry Johnson was a special friend while at MS Care Center of Morton. Mrs. Bates enjoyed Quilting, Embroidering and just making nice thing to give to someone else. She also enjoyed playing games such as word finds, and Dominoes. She loved her family very much and spending time with them brought great joy to her life. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
Mrs. Bates was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jessie Patterson Johnson, husband, Jimmy Dale Bates, sisters, Alpha Lucas and Christine Wilkerson, brothers, John, George, Ed Johnson and Danny Kent, her mother, Annie Laura Mouchett and uncle, J.H. Mouchett who reared her when her parents died.
Mrs. Bates is survived by her children, Gerald (Vickie) Bates of Morton, Gloria (Jimmy) Turner of Morton and Teresa (Mike) Sims of Walnut Grove; special friend, Malcom Anderson of Morton; grandchildren, Brandi Bates, Lindsey Phillipson, Jason Bates, Brad Bates, Jessica Turner, Amanda Whitehead and James Whitehead; great grandchildren, Emily, Makenzie, Kaylyn Grace, Kelsey Claire and Hunter; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Serving as Pallbearers were Jason Bates, James Whitehead, Brad Bates, Ray Phillipson, Kevin Bowen, Danny Kent and Mike Sims. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Keith Rambo, Alan Rambo, Tommy Lucas, William Lucas, Johnny Lucas and Larry Johnson.
