Allen Austin Vest, 71, a resident of Pearl, MS died Monday, April 6, 2015 at his home in Pearl. Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon with burial in the Crestview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held April 8, 2015 from 5 pm until 8 pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon and Thursday from 10 am until 11 am at the church. Rev. Chris Cumbest and Rev. Tommy Artmann will officiate the services. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.
Mr. Vest was a native of Jackson, MS. He was the son of John William Vest and Dorothy Crowe Vest. He was married to Peggy Harris Vest. Mr. Vest enjoyed his mornings with with the Weaver Gore Coffee Club at the Elite Restaurant. Mr. Vest was raised in a family that was passionate about playing tennis. He won many tournaments as a player, and he, his mother and his sisters were named the USTA National Tennis Family of the year in 1979. His love for and knowledge of the game led him to embark on a career as a tennis court builder. He enjoyed hosting his website “What's Cooking Mississippi”. He loved his family very much and spending time with them brought great joy to his life. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
Mr. Vest was preceded in death by his parents, John William Vest and Dorothy Crowe Vest and a grandson.
Mr. Vest is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy Harris Vest; four children, Carol Elizabeth Vest (Rick Coleman), Allen Austin Vest, Jr., Stephanie Vest Rogers (Jimmy) and Sarah Vest Thornell (Blake); two sisters, Carol Ann Vest and Rebecca Louise Vest (Alan Avdoyen); one grandson and 3 great grandchildren.
