Almetus McKinley Reeder, 99, passed away on Wed. Oct. 28, 2015 at her home in Brandon, MS. She was born in Grande Glaze, AR on January 22, 1916. She was a native of Vicksburg, MS until moving to Baton Rouge, LA in 1943. She resided in Baton Rouge until 1999 to be with her family in Brandon, MS. Almetus was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and cousin. She will be greatly missed by this loving family.
Almetus was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church in Brandon, MS; and a former member of First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA. She spent many years working with deaf children and others in the deaf community through the First Baptist Deaf Church of Baton Rouge, where she was a charter member. Almetus was also a member of the Istrouma Eastern Star Chapter #162 for over 50 years; a member of the Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary, and the Home League in which she served on the Advisory Board. Shae had a heart for missions and was always involved in Christian ministry.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Anne Reeder; grandson, Joe F. Reeder III and his wife, Madeline; great-grandchildren, Shannon Reeder Riley and husband Michael, Hailey Reeder, and Beau Reeder; great-great-grandchildren Emily Grace and Caroline Faith Riley; and daughter-in-law Wanda Thompson all of Brandon, MS; and brother George Bobb of Old Town, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Almetus was preceded in death by her husband, Joe F. Reeder Jr; her parents, Erman Lee McKinley, Belvie Wilson McKinley Bobb and husband Ethel Bobb; brothers, Rex Vincent McKinley, and Kellogg Bobb.
Pallbearers are Robert Reeder, Cecil Swanson, Terry Swanson, Ernest Swanson Jr, David Villere, Morris Wright, and Carlos Parra. Honorary Pallbearers are Ernest Swanson Sr and Ramie “Bootsie” Villere.
Visitation will be at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. Christian burial will take place at Sharon Baptist Church in Port Allen, LA on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Services will be conducted by Rev. Arnold Austin and the Praising Hands Ministry from Istrouma Baptist Deaf Church of Baton Rouge, LA.
