Alvin Ted Pullin
Polkville, MS
Our beloved father and grandfather, Alvin Ted Pullin, was surrounded by family as he passed from this life on December 30, 2017. Only son of Marie (Phillips) and Maxie Pullin, he lived on the family farm that he loved in Polkville. After graduation from East Central Junior College and Mississippi State College (1951), he taught math at Taylorsville School before starting a 30-year career with the Mississippi State Agricultural Extension Service. As a county agent in Lawrence County, he met a pretty girl working in the courthouse who agreed to become his wife. Ted and Frances (Thames) enjoyed 51 years of happy marriage. During postings in Canton and Monticello, they started their family with Debbie (McCollum) and Phillip. After a year in Starkville, where Ted completed his Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics at MSU, the family settled in Jackson where Delena (Rial) was born. As an Extension Fruit and Vegetable Marketing Specialist, Ted traveled the state working with farmers. He was especially proud of his work with pimento pepper growers. Ted’s Christian faith guided his life, and he served as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and deacon at Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson and later at First Baptist Polkville during his retirement. Following Frances’ death, Ted spent his last ten years farming pines, visiting with friends over coffee every morning at the Polkville Café, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a man who never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with and getting to know others. A devoted MSU Bulldog, Ted attended every home football game for more than 25 years, including all games this season. He will be greatly missed by his children, son-in-law Carey Rial, and his grandchildren: Cole (Georgia-Kay) McCollum, Cassie (Joey) Sherman, and Courtney McCollum; Jack, Ben, Reece, and Jenna Rial; and great-grandchild, Allie Kate Sherman. Visitation is from 4:00-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 3rd at Ott & Lee in Morton and at First Baptist Polkville from 10:00 until services begin at 11:00 on Thursday, January 4th. Memorials may be offered to First Baptist Polkville.
Arrangments were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
