Amy Lynn Harrelson, 52, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at The University of Mississippi Medical Center. Visitation will start at 1pm on Friday, December 23, 2016 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, with the service following at 2pm in the chapel. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery in Simpson County.
Amy was born in Greenwood, MS on May 14, 1964. She attended Mississippi Baptist High School from grades 1 through 12. Amy received a Bachelor’s Degree from Mississippi State University, and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Mississippi College. She taught 4th grade at Madison Station Elementary School for 19 years and was beloved by staff and students alike. Ms. Harrelson received many awards and accolades during her long teaching career. Among her achievements were the following: Metro Jackson Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Teacher Award and Veterans of Foreign Awards of the U.S. Outstanding Teaching Award. Ms. Harrelson was a member of the Junior League of Jackson, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and attended Pine Lake Church.
Survivors include her mother, Betty Steen Harrelson of Brandon, MS; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Wilbur Harrelson; her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Bertell Steen of Simpson County and Mr. and Mrs. James Ruel Harrelson of Calhoun County.
