Ann Nance Metz
Louisville, MS

Ann Nance Metz, 84, passed away peacefully on June 14, 1017 at St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS where she had been a resident for four years.  Visitation will be Monday, June 19, 2017 from 5 pm until
7 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.  Memorial Services will be Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 11 am at Liberty Universalist Church off Betheden Road in Louisville, MS.

Mrs. Metz was born on July 23, 1932 in Philadelphia, MS to the late Jess and Myrtle Nance.  She was the youngest of twelve children.  She graduated high school at 16 and attended college at East Central Community College and Southern Mississippi.  She met George Metz while at East Central Community College.  They were married for 52 years prior to his death in 2003.  Ann and George called Mississippi their home after 2-3 year stay in Lodi, CA following their marriage.

Ann was a loving mother and wife.  Her family was the most important thing to her; and she was the most important thing to her family.  She was an example for her children of all that is good in a person and a mother. She worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for several physicians in both Jackson and Louisville, MS.  Ann, George and their daughter, Isabel started Specialty Salvage, an architectural salvage company in Louisville, MS.  Ann loved dismantling the old homes to salvage the beautiful wood and history.  Ann was a capable carpenter, builder and repairman.  She never allowed an obstacle to stop her from accomplishing what she wanted or needed to do.  She tried to instill this attitude in her children as well.

Ann also lived her life with love, and understanding for other people.  She believed that no one should judge another until they walked in that person’s shoes.  She took the unpleasant things that happened to her and made them examples of how not to treat others instead of becoming bitter or resentful.  She could find the good in anything and anyone.  She wasn’t blind to the bad, she just didn’t allow that to cloud her vision and outlook of the world.  She was fearless.  She loved being outside, cutting her grass, working in the yard, fishing, boating, woodworking, building and most of all her family.

Ann is preceded in death by her husband, George P. Metz, her parents, and nine siblings.  She is survived by three daughters, Waiya (Bob) Conerly of Ridgeland, MS, Isabel (Brad) Buchanan of Brandon, MS, Becky (Tim) Magandy of Gluckstadt, MS, and her son, David (Lilly) Metz of Boerne, TX; one sister, Marie Nichols of Brandon, MS; one brother, Everette (Laura) Nance of Knoxville, TN; four granddaughters, Sarah Conerly (Devin) Sham,  Jessie Buchanan, Grace Metz and Francis Magandy; four grandsons, Jonathan Conerly, Cody Buchanan, Sailor Metz and Porter Magandy; and one great-grandson, Ethan Sham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mississippi Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
