Audrey Goodman Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully at home on the Johnson Farm April 17, 2014. Visitation is Monday, 12:00, followed by the service at 2:00 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Audrey was born October 10, 1925, to the late Ollie and Ellis Goodman in Pelahatchie, Mississippi. She was Salutatorian of the Class of 1943 at Cross Roads High School. She was a service manager at South Central Bell Telephone Company and worked later as the buyer in the family business, Capitol Tobacco & Specialty Company. She was a long-time member of the Jackson Primitive Baptist Church, now Grace Primitive Baptist Church. Her strength, character, and unwavering faith in God have defined her life which has been an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. An avid sports fan, she was her grandchildren’s number one cheerleader and enjoyed following “The Manning Boys,” Brett Favre, and the Atlanta Braves.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray Johnson; sisters, Ruth White and Bernice Chapman; brothers, Bob, Jimmy, Thomas, and Fred Goodman.
She is survived by her children, Brenda (Johnny) Barlow and Lynn (T. J.) Burrow; sister, Myrna (Billy) Cooper; grandchildren, Brian (Tisha) Barlow; Matt (Tracie) Jones; Audrey Brooke (Jason) Nichol; and Nicholas Jones; 4 great grandchildren with 5th due in October; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family will be forever grateful to caregivers Lisa Campbell and Sandra Jones. We are especially thankful for the love and laughter Sandra brought to her life over the last year!Memorials may be made to Grace Primitive Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
