Audrey Johnson Canterbury, 95, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Brandon Court in Brandon. Visitation is 5-7 pm Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 2 pm Sunday at the funeral home with burial in White Oak Cemetery.
Audrey was born March 6, 1921 to Terrell and Annie Johnson. She grew up in Smith County and graduated from White Oak High School. Audrey raised her family in south Jackson and was employed by the City of Jackson Parks and Recreation Department for 20 years.
Audrey enjoyed traveling through the United States and visited 52 foreign countries, including 2 visits to the Holy Land. She especially enjoyed seeing the Great Wall of China, Coliseum in Rome, Pyramids, Taj Mahal, Stonehenge and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Audrey loved her church and she was a member of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star. She lived a Christian life and all who knew her recognized her gentle spirit and kind heart.
Survivors include her son, Rick Canterbury (Jeannie) of Brandon; grandsons, Jason (Katie) and Dale Canterbury of Brandon; great granddaughter, Harper and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, O. E. Canterbury; daughter, Glenda; sisters, Ludie Trest, Mamie Slay, Ora Cook, Vera Daniels, Mildred McIntosh, brothers, Homer, Vivan and Leon Johnson.
