On February 16, 2011, Autrey Doyle Jones left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father. He leaves behind a host of friends and family who have been blessed by knowing and loving him. Visitation is 4-7 pm Friday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon and 10 am Saturday at Concord Baptist Church. Services are 11 am Saturday at the church with burial to follow in Concord Cemetery.
Doyle was born on July 5, 1940, in Harperville, Mississippi. He graduated from Harperville High School, East Central Junior College, and earned a degree in Science from Mississippi College. He trained in the army and at Mississippi Baptist Hospital as a Medical Technologist. He had a fulfilling career working at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Laird’s Hospital in Union and Sonny Montgomery Veteran’s Hospital. Doyle retired from the V. A. in 1996.
Doyle proudly served his country in the army and completed a tour in Korea. He remained in the National Guard for many years. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, Doyle was promoted to the rank of Colonel. He considered anyone wearing the uniform of our country his brother or sister.
Doyle’s military training affected his life in many ways, including “raising” his three boys. As Rev. Donnie Stuart said, “Doyle was not ‘raising boys’, he was ‘raising men’.”
Doyle accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and spent his life serving the Lord faithfully. While attending Broadmoor Baptist Church, he sang in the choir, taught Royal Ambassadors, and served as a Deacon. After Doyle and Ollie Faye retired and moved to Pelahatchie, Concord Baptist Church became their church home. He sang in the choir, served as an assistant Sunday School teacher, led Discipleship Training, and served as a Deacon and on many committees. Doyle also enjoyed serving on numerous committees with Rankin County Baptist Association.
The great loves of Doyle’s life were serving God, loving and caring for his family and friends, and enjoying God’s beautiful outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with those he loved.
Doyle is preceded in death by his parents, J. C. and Catherine Jones, and his eldest son, Kevin Wayne Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 48 years, Ollie Faye McNair Jones; son, Christopher Doyle Jones (Tracy); grandchildren, Ashleigh and Owen Jones; and son, Craig Banks Jones (Vickie) and grandson, Devin Jones. Doyle is also survived by a sister, Linda Thompson and her daughter, Cathy and family and his favorite mother-in-law, Mama Evelyn.
