Ava J. Thorne, 91 a resident of Lena died Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Hospice In His Hands in Madden, MS. Funeral services will be held 10 am Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Springfield Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-9 pm Monday and 8:30 am-9:15 am at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Rev. Tal Vardaman and Rev. Bob Smith officiated the services. Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Thorne was a native of Rankin Co. She was the daughter of Josie Albert and Daisy Ella Winstead Cooper. She was married to Major Henry Thorne, Jr. Mrs. Thorne was a cook and worked for MS Care Center in Morton many years before retiring. She was Baptist by faith and was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge #110 of Morton. She loved her family very much and spending time with them brought great joy to her life. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Mrs. Thorne was preceded in death by her parents, Josie Albert and Daisy Ella Winstead Cooper, husband, Major Henry Thorne, Jr., sister, Clemmie D. Cooper, brother, Prentiss A. Cooper and a great nephew, Alex Watts.
Mrs. Thorne is survived by her daughters, Mary J. (James) Webb and Nancy L. (Donald) Denson; grandchildren, Jo Sondra Montague and Amy J. Denson; great grandchild, Jared Montague; nieces, Sadie C. Cooper and Shelia C. (David) Watts; great nephew, Jeremy M. Watts and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers were, Jeremy Watts, J.J. Lott, Chris Coker, Leon Dye, Willie Bryant Webb and Danny Cooper. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Johnny Cooper, Herbert Cooper, Ronald Palmer, Hamp Pierce and Homer Willingham.
