B. Welbur Gibson left his earthly home January 4, 2021, to be with his Heavenly Father. A graveside service will be held Wednesday for family only.
Welbur was part of the greatest generation, serving in the Navy as a Lieutenant JG during WWII in the Pacific Campaign. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Marjorie Ball. Together they started a family business in Laurel, MS which they operated for 25 years. After retirement, they traveled the United States and Canada in their Airstream Travel Trailer. They were members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club, where they made wonderful friends. They also enjoyed gospel singing and were members of many groups in Mississippi.
Welbur and Marjorie were married 64 years at her passing. Left to cherished memories is their daughter, Patsy Burks and husband Shay of Brandon, grandchildren, Ashley Clark and husband Ronnie of Flowood, Craig Burks and wife Jennifer of Birmingham, AL, Drew Burks of Birmingham, AL; five great-grandchildren, Lochlan, Jay, Silas, and Mae Mae Clark of Flowood and Ada Burks of Birmingham, AL. He was known fondly as “Papaw”.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Richland, where Welbur was a faithful member.
The family wishes to send a heart-felt than you to the staff of Castlewoods Place for their kind and loving care of Welbur. Also, to the comforting care of Compassus Hospice that their entire staff gave.
Our beloved Papaw lived a full and joyful life in Jesus Christ, and we, the family, claim the Apostle Paul’s words that “…to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
