Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Alexander will be conducted on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Ott & Lee Chapel with the Rev. Randall Creel and Rev. Bobby Boyles officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the funeral home.
Barbara Anita Fortenberry Alexander was born at Harperville on May 19, 1941 to her parents, Carl Howell and Mary Lee Till Fortenberry. She passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian at the age of 75.
She was a longtime resident of the Gibbstown Community and a retiree of the sewing department at La-Z-Boy South in Newton. She was a member of the Sand Ridge Baptist Church at Lake.
As described by her family, she was an “amazing and wonderful mother, who nurtured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.” Remembered for her strong work ethic, Mrs. Barbara lived that example before her family and friends. She loved her family very much and never met a stranger, very neighborly. She will be missed, but her Godly testimony will live on in the hearts and lives of others for generations to come.
She was preceded in death by her husband: George Edward Alexander; her parents; four sisters: Gail Morris, Janie Blake, Carolyn Phillips, and Sandra Seals.
Survivors include her four children: Melinda (Billy Joe) Poole of Lawrence; Donna Davis of Meridian; Sondra (Doug) Hammons of Lawrence; and Eddie (Cindy) Alexander of Conehatta; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Doris Shirley and Nancy Cowley, both of Baytown, TX; one brother: Carl Lee Fortenberry of Palm Bay, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chad Hines, Chris Hammons, Artie Shaw, Dusty Shaw, Josh Alexander, Devin Alexander and Trevor Alexander.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Tyler Hines, Presley Boykin, and Kaleb Harris.
