Barry Joe Marshall

Barry Joe Marshall, 53, loving husband, father, son, and brother, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023. Barry, the oldest of three children, was born on April 26, 1970, in Memphis, TN, to Joe Edwin Marshall, Jr., and Pamela Jo Birmingham Marshall.

When Barry was 3 years old, he moved with his family to French Camp, MS, to be closer to his paternal grandparents. After graduating from Weir High School in 1988, Barry attended college and joined the Army National Guard. He served his country for six years. Eventually, he completed his undergraduate degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix.

Barry met Rhonda Houston Marshall, his true love, on September 29, 1989. After dating for five years, they were married on December 10, 1994, and welcomed their only son, Ned Thomas Marshall, on September 9, 2005.

Barry was a born mechanic and built his first car and transmission at the age of 16, with his father. His first car was a red 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback! Barry held certifications for both aviation and HVAC repair. He earned the latter simply for the ability to buy freon. Barry was a multi-talented guy who did anything he put his mind to. If there was something he did not know, he would study, learn to do it, then share his knowledge with others. Known to many that loved him as the “Jack-of-all-trades” or “MacGyver,” Barry loved all things mechanical. Everyone’s go-to guy for something broken, he could fix your car, boat, motorhome, air conditioner, or even your computer.

Barry had a love of life like no other. He loved laughing and joking with others, and always had a joke or a “Barryism” to share. He enjoyed boating, deep-sea fishing, and everything car related with his beloved Ned by his side. One of his greatest joys was teaching and showing his son about mechanical work.  Barry loved spending time with his family and friends. He was never too busy to lend a hand. Whether he was building a wheelchair ramp or sitting down for a visit, Barry was always gracious with his time.

Barry loved the Lord and was a faithful servant throughout his life. During his senior year of high school, Barry chose to serve others in Honduras with his church rather than go to the beach for Spring Break. A deacon, Barry became a member of Brandon Baptist Church in 2005. Over the years, he served on numerous committees including transportation, stewardship, and personnel, as well as serving as Head of Deacons. He was a Sunday School teacher for young men in grades 9 - 11. Barry was also a member of the American Legion.

Barry was proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents Joe E and Joy Marshall, Sr., maternal grandmother, Mildred Brice, and sister, Ashley Marie Marshall.

Barry is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda, and son, Ned Marshall of Brandon; parents, Joe and Pam Marshall of Madison; brother, Justin Marshall, his wife Sarah, and their children, Kate, Kara, and Hudson, all of Madison; grandfather, Tom Brice, of Bartlett, TN; mother-in-law, Shirley Sellers of Florence; and brother-in-law Scott Houston, his wife Julie, and their children, Makayla, Maya, and Ainsley of Amory; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
