Barry Neal Smith, 64, passed away at his home on Friday, January 22, 2015. Visitation will be 5-7pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.

Barry was born in Union, MS on September 15, 1951. He attended Magnolia Speech School for the Deaf, where his mother taught and his young sister also attended. He attended Lake Elementary, Hardy Junior High, and graduated from Provine High School in 1969. As a youth he was gifted as a baseball player and selected to many All Star teams and was also a member of several championship church softball teams while attending Van Winkle Baptist Church. He was active in supporting the Deaf Community of the Jackson area and loved attending softball tournaments where he served as both player and coach of the team.

Barry just recently retired in November 2015 after 44 years of employment with the MS State Tax Commission.

He was preceded in death by his father, RC Smith of Jackson, MS. Survivors include his mother, Arietta Vance Smith of Brandon, MS; brothers, Randy Smith (Betty) of New Albany, IN and Joel Stacy Smith (Susan) of Crystal Springs, MS; sister, Bridget Smith Hill of Brandon, MS. He also leaves behind 5 nieces and nephews.

He was born a Baptist; he was raised as a Baptist, but lived his own life the way he saw fit. Godspeed, Brother.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Magnolia Speech School of Jackson.
