Bernice was known as Ms. Strickland, Ms. Bernice, Mama and Nanny. Her grandchildren called her Nanny and so did all of their friends which she loved.

Bernice was born and raised in the Linwood Community in Neshoba County to Ella Ricks Nicholson and Andrew Albert Nicholson. She married her childhood sweetheart, Hugh Darl Strickland in 1939 and having lived in Florida, Alabama, and Texas, but lived in Meridian most of their married life moving to Brandon with her husband in 1987.

She was a member of Crossgates United Methodist Church and a member of the Pioneer Sunday School Class being very active in her church until her health failed. She loved working with children and worked at the Crossgates United Methodist Church daycare for years which was her pride and joy. At church she started the tape ministry, delivering videos to all sick and shut-ins wanting them to feel they were still part of their church and also started the Christmas Basket Ministry. She always said if she had a calling it was to visit and keep in touch. She loved the children, the elderly, in fact she loved everybody and everyone loved her. Her hobby was her computer starting in her early years of 80. She retired from Stanley Home Products Company as Unit Sales manager working there for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Lessie Plowman, Vernice Wilcher, a brother, Clyde Nicholson, a nephew, Rudolph Wilcher, and a Niece, Patricia Ann Suttles.

She is survived by her son, Nicholas Darl Strickland, Sr., wife, Donna; daughter, Bobbye Strickland; grandson, Nicholas Darl Strickland, Jr.; granddaughter, Ashley Harris, husband, Jody; a great grandson, Macrae Harris; a great granddaughter, Kate Harris all of Charleston, SC; two nieces, Joe Ann Lasser of Atlanta, GA and Gerald Dean Edwards of Philadelphia, MS; a host of friends and neighbors.
