Bettie Lou Irby, 84, a resident Eureka Community near Sandhill in Rankin Co. died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation was held 5-8 pm Friday, July 22, 2011 and 8:30-10am Saturday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Funeral services were held 11am Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Leesburg Baptist Church with burial in the Leesburg Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Joseph Oster and Rev. James Pugh, Jr. officiated the services. Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton was in charge of the services.
Mrs. Irby was born in Scott County in 1926. She was a longtime resident of the Eureka Community near Sandhill in Rankin County. Mrs. Irby was a very active member of Leesburg Baptist Church. She sang in the Adult Choir and also sang with the Leesburg Gaither Choir. Mrs. Bettie loved the Joy Sunday School Class very much. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Irby will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Mrs. Irby was preceded in death by her son, A.L. (Buddy) Irby; sister, Wanza Crum; father, Dudley Crum and mother, Gladys Bates Penn.
Mrs. Irby is survived by her husband, A.M. (Marbo) Irby of Eureka Community in Rankin Co.; and her daughter, Margaret (Jack) Watts of Sandhill; daughter-in-law, Becky Pugh Irby of Eureka Community in Rankin Co; 4 grandchildren, Susan Irby of Eureka Community; Sandra Shivers (Shannon) of Kosciusko, David “Bo” Irby (Kerri) of Flowood and Stacy Trest (Rodney) of Eureka Community; 4 great grandchildren, Taylor Trest of Ft. Bragg, NC, Shelby Trest of Eureka Community, Connor Shivers and Jack Shivers both of Kosciusko; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were David “Bo” Irby, Taylor Trest, Rodney Trest, Shannon Shivers, Charles Vance and Billy Ray Parker. Honorary pallbearers were The Joy Sunday School Class and Older Adult Mens Sunday School Class of Leesburg Baptist Church.
