*********************************************************************************************************

Betty Frances Lewis Chesnut was born on April 08, 1932 to Wallace and Vera Pearl (Pearlie) Lewis. She was a lifelong active citizen of Morton, MS. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Chesnut; her beloved son, Jimmy Lynn Chesnut; her brothers, Dwight Lewis and Bobby Madison; nephew, Buddy Lewis; her grandson, Lynn Chesnut; and her great grandchild, Allison Chesnut. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Laura Chesnut Cook (Dean Cook); Grandson, Neal Chesnut (Kit); Granddaughter, Krista Franklin (Sean); Granddaughter, Brittney McCurdy (Ben); Niece, Judith Lewis; Grandson, Robert Lynn Chesnut; Granddaughter, Anna Claire Chesnut; Granddaughter, Hallie McCurdy; Granddaughter, GemmaLynne Franklin; Grandson, Hagen McCurdy; Grandson, Callan Franklin; and a host of other family and friends.

Nannie, as she was more commonly called by family and friends, grew up in the small town of Morton. She and her husband made a home in the same quiet little town, where they raised one son, Jimmy Lynn Chesnut in a community known as Frogtown. She was a dedicated employee of BC Rogers for 40 years. She was also a long time attendant of High Hill Baptist Church in Raleigh, MS and loved the Lord dearly. Her husband passed in 1983 and she became an active member of the homemaker’s club, Forest Business club, the 49’ers and had many dear friends she loved volunteering and spending time with; they were, truly, more like family. Nannie was an avid gardener and never let her flowerbeds go a day without attention. It is said that her thumb was one of the greenest there was. She had a passion for health. She always had some healthier alternative and never missed a day of walking. Although her life was full and adventurous with her best friends, she always made time for her family. If you walked in her door for a visit, you were staying for something to eat. Nannie kept an angel food cake baked and vanilla yogurt in the freezer. She prided herself on family get-togethers, where friendly frustrations were had over a hand of cards. Holidays were spent laughing over memories from times gone by. She loved keeping her great grandchildren and watching their many activities as they grew. She was always a huge supporter of all her family members and always looked for the best in people.

In recent years, Nannie has resided at MSCC of Morton, where she became a quick staple. Her quick wittedness and sly remarks kept everyone on their toes and smiling. All her caregivers loved her dearly and always said what beautiful lady she was. Her roommate, Mrs. Bobbie Comans, was a trooper and an angel in disguise to watch over her.

Nannie will be missed by anyone who ever met her. She is laid to rest the 6th day of October, 2023, at Sims Cemetery in Morton, MS.
