Betty Jean Owens Lee passed away at home on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the age of 82.  Visitation will be Monday, July 31, 2017 from 5 until 7 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.  Graveside Services will be Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 1 pm in Brandon Memorial Gardens in Brandon with Rev. Dave Stout officiating.

Betty is predeceased by her parents Rosco Elbert Owens and Pluna Behethlan Owens Holliman.  She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John Gaynor Lee.  They married in Graysville, Alabama on June 17, 1961.

Betty is lovingly remembered by her daughter Teresa A O’Malley of Brandon, MS; her son Ronald O. Jaynes of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and daughter Pamela K. Lee- Frank of Sacramento, California.  As well as her granddaughters Heather A. O’Malley-Haycraft of Brandon, MS, Desiree Jaynes, Jennifer Jaynes, and Annie Jaynes of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and grandson Quinn Frank of Sacramento, California; and her great-grandchildren Christa & Jada Haycraft of Brandon, MS, Chloe Jaynes of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and a sister, Reba Stout of Spartenburg, NC

Betty was born in Columbus, MS on September 9, 1934. She graduated from New Hope High School and attended Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS.

Betty had a spunky personality and was a true Southern Belle.  She took pride in herself and her family. She worked hard and accomplished many things within her lifetime.  Betty and her husband John owned Hansel & Gretel’s Young Fashions and Modeling School for young children in El Paso, Texas.  She belonged to the Texas Art Association and taught painting to adults and children.  When she was younger she was in a commercial for Diamond Coffee Company and worked for State National Bank in Columbus, MS.  During her later years she took writing classes and was published in various books for her short stories and poems.  She loved to play the piano and sing and loved the Lord.  Betty never met a stranger and was always the life of the party.  She was the matriarch of the family and will be forever loved and missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
