Betty Jean Brown Waddell went to her eternal home in Heaven on July 27, 2015. She was born Oct. 6, 1928 in Pulaski, MS to Virnadia Tadlock and Wallace E. Brown. She was raised in the Homewood Community where she graduated from Homewood High School in 1946.
Betty married Alvin Michael “Mike” Waddell in Jackson, MS at Calvary Baptist Church on July 24, 1948, and was a church member there until moving to Brandon. Mike and Betty raised their family in Jackson, MS. Betty retired from the National Guard as a Civil Service Employee. She was a faithful member of Crossgates Baptist Church.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, William Barry Waddell, and brother, Buford Brown.
She is survived by her two sons, Alvin “Al” M. Waddell, Jr. and wife Deborah, and Marty Waddell; six grandchildren, Heather Waddell, Justin Waddell, Amanda Waddell, Kimberly Waddell, Katherine W. Cooley and husband, Logan, and Daniel Waddell; and two great-grandchildren, Adrienne Lipking and Piper Lipking. Other survivors include two brothers, Ralph Brown and Bob Brown and wife, Janelle, and three sisters, Fredna B. Black, Billie Brown, and Jeanette B. Tucker; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday July 28, 2015 from 9am-10:45am at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with the funeral services following at 11am in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Crossgates Baptist Church at 8 Crosswoods Rd. Brandon, MS.
