Betty Walters

Betty R. Walters of Brandon passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at home.  Betty was born on August 10, 1929 in Ovett, Mississippi to Dobie and Frankie Landrum.  She attended Jones County Public Schools, Jones County Junior College and received her BS degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.  She taught school for thirty-seven years.  Two years at Mt. Olive High School, one year at Glade High School in Jones County and thirty-four years at Pearl High School.

The Lord blessed her with a long retirement during which she served in various ministries at Crossgates Baptist Church.  She was able to spend time with her husband, Loyd Walters, and her children, see her grandchildren come to know the Lord and know and love her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Mack J. King, second husband Loyd Walters, grandson Nick King and son-in-law Rocky Steverson. She is survived by her children, Greg King (Virginia), Richard King (Mendy), Pam Steverson, Pat Pinson (Paul); grandchildren, Clint King, Megan Steverson, Paige DeVries (Scott), Peyton Pinson, and Jessica King; great-grandchildren Ella King, Eli King, Easton King, Huxley King, Keaton King and sister Alicia Taylor.

The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers for the past two years – Annette Brown, Janet Rias, Remi Oladipo and Debbie Shay.  In lieu of flowers, the Family request that contributions be made to Crossgates Baptist Church c/o Mackie Dennis’s Senior Adult Sunday School Class or your favorite charity.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at 12:00pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, Brandon. Visitation will begin at 10:00am and conclude at 12:00pm. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
