Bill Smith, a member of the Pisgah community, passed away on July 18, 2023, at the age of 69. Bill was born on October 11, 1953, in McCool, Mississippi.
Bill led a fulfilling life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. He served his country with honor as a US Army Veteran in the 82nd Airborne and as a Green Beret. Bill's bravery and dedication to his military service were a testament to his strong character. Bill was also very proud to have worked as a Police Officer with the LAPD.
After his military career, Bill found success as an entrepreneur. He owned and operated two Convenience Stores, where he built long-lasting relationships with his customers through his exceptional service. In addition to managing the stores, Bill pursued another passion by owning and operating his own 18-wheeler.
Bill is survived by his wife of 20 years Dottie Smith; daughters, Mallory Gurley, Madisson Gurley, Courtney Smith, Candace Crockett, Christy Thornton, and Danielle Shaeffer; friend, Melody Smith; 13 grandchildren, two sisters; two brothers; fur babies, Lucy and Charlie; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Humphrey Smith and Bill Smith, and Noel William Lott.
Bill enjoyed various hobbies and interests that showcased his vibrant spirit. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Bill's love for socializing led him to meet friends from all walks of life. Whether it was cutting grass, porch sitting, playing music, or indulging in woodworking projects, Bill found joy in the simplicity of life's pleasures.
The loss of Bill Smith leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends. To honor his memory and celebrate his life, a visitation will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes-Brandon located at 1360 W Government St, Brandon, MS, 39042. A memorial service will follow at the same location from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
Bill will forever be remembered as a strong-willed individual with a heart full of love and compassion. His unwavering dedication to his loved ones and his unwavering spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bill's honor to a veteran support organization or charity of your choice.
