Billie R. Barton, 76, passed away Thurs. Aug. 11, 2011 at the St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held Sun. Aug. 14, 2011 from 2pm.-5pm. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 10am. Mon. Aug. 15, 2011 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with a 4pm. graveside service to follow at Oak Springs Cemetery in Derma, MS.
Mr. Barton was born in Derma, MS and has been a resident of Brandon, MS since 1964. He was a member of Altawoods Baptist Church in Jackson, MS. Mr. Barton graduated from Derma High School, earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University and his LL.B in Law from Jackson School of Law. He retired after 42 years of service with the MS Dept. of Transportation and then he joined the Michael Baker Engineers Co. where he worked for 9 ½ years. Mr. Barton also has 32 years experience in the U.S. Army, National Guard, and Army Reserves; 5 years as Commander of U.S. Army Engineer Battalion (Combat Heavy) and he is also a Retired Colonel of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
He is survived by his wife, Annice Barton; his mother, Annie Wilma Barton; his son, Miles Barton and wife Tori; his brother, Roy Barton and four grandchildren, Heather Barton, Aubrey Ann Barton, Eliza Barton and Caroline Barton. Mr. Barton is preceded in death by his son, Billy Barton Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Miss. Division, Inc., 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.
