Visitation isSunday, Sept. 9 from 5p.m. until 8p.m.Funeral Services will be on Mon., Sept. 10, at Forest Baptist Church at 11 a.m.with Bro. Frank Gunn and Bro. Scott Fortenberry officiating.Billie was born in Morton, MS on February 28, 1930, to the late Otis Arthur Cates and Hattie Mae Cates. The family moved to Forest, MS her junior year of high school where she met and fell in love with David Lee. She graduated from Forest High School and attended Hinds Junior College. Billie & David married August 3, 1952, at Forest Baptist Church after the Sunday services and were married 59 years until Dr. Lee's passing in 2011. Billie worked for the GM&O Railroad in New Orleans, LA as a secretary while David attended Tulane Medical School. While David was completing his medical residency in Shreveport, LA, son David, Jr. was born. While living on the Japanese island of Okinawa where David was a doctor in the army, daughter Margy was born. Son Bill was delivered by his daddy in Forest. Billie worked for many years in David's medical clinic, and all the patients and staff loved her great sense of humor and deep compassion. Billie & David had so many wonderful friends! They always had the best time together visiting, jitterbug dancing, and always laughing up a storm with Billie Lee around. Talk about lighting up a room -- When Billie walked in, it was time for the fun to begin! Her zest for life, her adoring friends and family, her great beauty, intelligence, and that wonderful sense of humor will stay with us all through our remaining days here on earth.Billie was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Charles David Lee and son William (Bill) Cates Lee. She is lovingly survived by: brother, Jimmy Cates (JoAnn) of Hickory, MS; son, David Lee, Jr. (Kathy) of Forest; daughter Margy Lee Thaxton (Sandy) of Crystal Springs. "Nanny" adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Joni Lee Tillman (Jason) and Jacob David Lee of Forest; Reese, Sam, and Cali Cates Tillman and Gage and Rainey Lee all of Forest along with many neices and nephews who loved their Aunt Billie.The family would like to thank her many special caregivers who made her so comfortable at home and the wonderful staff at Lackey Memorial Hospital and Lackey Convalescent Home in Forest. All loved her and treated her as if she was a member of their families. Memorials may be made to Forest Baptist Church Medical Missions or the charity of your choice.
