Billie Johnson McDillBrandon, MSBillie McDill went home to be with the Lord on the morning of September 26, 2012.
Visitation is Friday, September 28, 2012 from 5 – 8 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Funeral services are 2pm Saturday in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Jackson with visitation starting at 12:30 at the church. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon.She was preceded in death by her father, Hi Eastland Johnson; mother Jewel Phillips Johnson and sister, Ann Johnson Easom. She is survived by her husband, Edward James "E. J." McDill; three sons: Phillip Wade McDill (Carol), Daniel Edward McDill and David James McDill; daughter Cynthia McDill Fetzer (Tom); sister Alma Johnson Lofton (Larry); six grandchildren: Bradley Russell McDill, Emily McDill Jackson (Brian), Stephen Andrew McDill, Joshua William McDill, Lindsey Fetzer Courtney (Sidney) and Thomas Calvin "Trey" Fetzer, III; and three great-grandchildren: Dylan McLeod, Sydney Marie Courtney and Kate Jackson along with numerous nieces and nephews. Billie was born on July 11, 1936 in Sebastapol, Mississippi in Scott County. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was a member of the Sebastapol Baptist Church. Billie played basketball, graduated from Sebastapol High School and attended East Central Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. She married Edward James McDill on November 16, 1955, then accompanied E. J. when he was deployed to Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. Afterwards they returned to Jackson, Mississippi where their four children grew up. Billie was active in the PTA as the children attended school. Billie and E. J. joined First Baptist Church in Jackson where they both taught Children's Baptist Training Union and where E. J. is a deacon and former Sunday School teacher. Billie worked for the Jackson Public Schools and in the print shop for the Mississippi Department of Transportation before retiring. She was a past president of the El Camino Club with MDOT in 1989. Billie and E. J. moved to Rankin County in 1989. Billie was devoted to her family and loved by her friends. She and E. J. loved to travel and enjoy their time-share condo. Her children and grandchildren enjoyed hearing her play the piano, such songs as Tennessee Waltz, Under the Double Eagle and Down Yonder. She will be greatly missed by her family, but their comfort is in the sure knowledge that she is at home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Jackson or American Cancer Society.
