Billy Joe Jones, 84, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Jackson, MS. There will be a private graveside service Saturday, April 18, 2020 at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Jones was born in Neshoba County, MS on February 1, 1936. After graduating high school, he joined the US Army in 1958 and was stationed in Alaska for 2 years. Billy married his wife Flora Sikes on September 19, 1960 after returning home.
Billy was a barber at West Barber Shop on Clinton Blvd. in Jackson for many years, later joining the Capital Police and retiring as Chief. He also retired from the Air National Guard. He was an avid hunter, gardener, he had a gift of hospitality and was a wonderful caregiver for many years to his beloved wife, Flora. He was very involved in volunteering and touched many in his ministries. He loved the Lord, his family and friends.
Survivors include his children, Cindy Chesteen (Chuck) of Brandon, Sherron Carter (Brad) of Madison and Scott Jones of Brandon; brothers, Raymond Jones (Mary) of Brandon and Sam H. Jones, Jr. of Philadelphia, MS; grandchildren, Taren Castello, Jordan Carter and Philip Carter; and a host of nieces and nephews who dearly loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam H. Jones, Sr. and Annie Stokes Jones; sister, Barbara Ingram and his wife of 58 years, Flora Sikes Jones.
The family would like to give a special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice, Covenant Caregivers and to the MS State Veterans Nursing Home Staff.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pearl Presbyterian Church, Building Fund; French Camp; or The Mind Center at UMMC.
