Billy Ausborn McNair, 77, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. Visitation is 5-8 pm Friday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 11 am Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the funeral home with burial in Lakewood South Cemetery in Jackson.
Born on December 6, 1936, Billy was one of nine children of Leora and Archie McNair of Union and Walnut Grove, MS. He attended Walnut Grove High School, Hinds Junior College and served in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1957. In August 1958 he married the former Becky Townsend of Harperville and they lived together in the south Jackson area from that time until moving to Brandon in 2004. He was the owner of McNair Floor Covering of Jackson and Byram, and had been in business since the early 1960’s. Billy was an active member of Brandon Baptist Church and of Bro. Bernard Nail’s Sunday School Class.
Billy was very active in the Masonic organization since 1963, and served as Grand Master of the Masons in Mississippi in 1992. He served as presiding officer of the three Grand York Rite Bodies in Mississippi and was aide-de-camp to the Grand Master of the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of USA. Billy is a 32nd degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason and served as Potentate of the Wahabi Shriners in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Becky Townsend McNair; son, Terry Alan McNair (Latricia) of Terry; grandson, Brian Ausborn McNair; granddaughter, Jennifer Robinson; step grandson, Aaron Parker; step granddaughter, Hannah Parker; sister, Charlotte Sanders (Dayton) of Freeny and brother, Lloyd McNair(Frances) of Dallas, TX and a host of nieces and nephews. Billy was preceded in death by a son, Joel Anthony (Tony) McNair and his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bernard Nail Sunday School Class and members of the Masonic family. Masonic services will be conducted at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Brandon Baptist Church; the Endowment Fund of the Grand Lodge of Mississippi, or the Shriner’s Children Hospital Fund at Wahabi Shriners.
