Billy Ivan Ware, 77, retired Lt. Colonel, USAF, broke the bonds of earth and touched the face of God on Monday, January 16, 2017. He passed away at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017 from 5pm-8pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services will be 11am on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS with burial to follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS. Mr. Ware was born in Edinburg, MS and has been a resident of Brandon, MS since 1973. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS.
He received his commission in the Air Force upon graduation from MSU in 1962. He became a B-52 pilot and served during the Vietnam War. After leaving the Air Force in 1970, he joined the MS Air National Guard. He became full time at the Guard in 1973, where he served until retirement in 1994. After retiring, he sold real estate. His volunteer activities included reading for the blind, teaching someone to read, the library, Rankin Hospital, Space A desk at eh Guard and the Jackson Municipal Airport. He also was a Scout Master of Troop 29 and served on the Scout Committee. He received the Silver Beaver award in 1989 from the Andrew Jackson Council. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cynthia Ware; three children, Anna (Marty) Young, Ivan W. (Kay) Ware and Clint E.(Cheri) Ware; sister, Diane (Tom) Denton and six grandchildren, Karley Ware, Katie Ware, Audrey Young, Cara Ware, Wesley Ware and Courtney Ware. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivy E. Ware, Ned and Maybelle Lawrence.
