Mrs. Birdie Alford, age 95, a resident of Morton entered the heavenly gates on Saturday, August 15, 2020. Visitation will be held 11am-1:45pm Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Graveside services will be held 2pm Tuesday at Hodge Hill Cemetery in Morton. Bro. Randy Rigney will officiate the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mrs. Alford was born in Scott County on February 6, 1925. Mrs. Alford loved to be outdoors working in her yard and gardening. When her son, Charles was alive they enjoyed working the garden together and always had a beautiful garden. She was known for her great cooking, especially her dressing which was a secret recipe. Her and Ora Lee were known for cooking the best dressing ever. Christmas Eve she always carried her dressing to the McCurdy family Christmas and Christmas Day everyone came to her house and dressing was always the main dish. She loved to travel with her son, Charles Ray and see the beautiful mountains. Mrs. Birdie loved the Lord, going to church and reading her Bible. She loved her whole family and a few had a special place in her heart. Quoted by the family, “ She called her oldest grandson, Danny Ray Alford her pride and joy; her son-in-in-law, Dennis Ray McCurdy her pride and joy; special great grands, Zann and Andrene; special great great grands , Tyler and Onica; special nephew, LE Nix; special friend, Sandra Ethridge; her yard man and her tea drinking friend, Delaney Boyd.” She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Franklin McLemore and Ada McCrory McLemore; son, Charles Ray Alford; siblings, Paralee McLain, Orlee McBride, Edna McBride of TX, Lewis McLemore, Roy McLemore, Bud McLemore and Paul McLemore.
She is survived by her children, Linda Faye Shoemaker of Scooba, Diane Boxx (Peter Paul) of Morton, Dorlene McCurdy (Dennis Ray) of Morton and Ladonna Alford Upton of Morton; siblings, Mary Thompson, Geraldine Cook, Katie Sanford, Clyde McLemore and Bobby McLemore; numerous other family members, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a host of friends. Mrs. Birdie loved all her furbabies, Lucky, Rex, Bobo, Max, Little Bit and Angel and she loved them to follow her and cuddle with her.
Pallbearers will be Junior McBride, Bud McBride, Wilbur McCurdy, Billy McCurdy, Willie McCurdy, Frank McCurdy, Jason Boxx, Michael Boxx and Tyler Nichols. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Frank Alford, Rodney Cook and LE Nix.
The family would also like to give a Thank You to Willie McCurdy that helped sit and take care of Mrs. Birdie when they were unable to.
