Bobby G. McMillon

Bobby McMillon, age 82, left this life on August 13, 2024. He was a resident of Richland and Florence, MS. He is survived by his Love - Joan Gordon, his daughter Leigh Anne Crotwell (Chris), his sons Jeremy McMillon and Travis Spurlock (Kristy), Daughter in Law Debbye McMillon (Steve), Daughter in Law Sherry McMillon (Brandon), Grandchildren: Rustin, Dustin, Faith and Jonathan McMillon (Nicole), Austin Crotwell and Mackenzie Crotwell, and 6 great grandchildren (Taylor, Riley, Karleigh, Arianna, Carter and Owen). He is also survived by two of his sisters: Jean Gary and Shelia Lashley (Dennis), and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is now with his wife of over 50 years, Linda McMillon, his Sons: Steve, Jeff and Brandon McMillon, parents Walter and Mable McMillon, brother Dalton McMillon and sister Mavis Hayes.

Bobby was born and raised in the lean times of picking cotton with his family. When he was in his adolescent years, he helped his brother and brother-in-law on their milk trucks. At a young age, he learned the value of earning a dollar and having some change in his pocket.

He always had a knack for making people laugh. This was beneficial during his teenage years. He could always talk his way out of trouble with his parents…and even the Law a time or two.

He married the love of his life, Linda McMillon, and proceeded to have 3 children. Thinking their family was complete, God said “Hold your horses. I’m not finished yet” …and then surprised them with their only daughter. Four years later, they were surprised again with another baby boy. The family was complete for a little while with 5 children. A few years later, Bobby became Legal Guardian of his nephew Travis Spurlock. Travis often looked to Bobby as a father figure, and this just sealed the deal. This family was blessed with a 6th child.

Bobby and Linda raised a preacher, a truck driver, a soldier, a strong-willed daughter, The Golden Child, and helped their special bonus child pave his way to his successful career in the Military. All of the children were blessed with their Bobby's sense of humor, but all would agree that The Golden Child received the biggest dose.

Although Bobby lacked a High School Diploma, he had multiple degrees in the Education of Life’s Experiences. From his early days on, he could fix and build anything he set his mind to. He was often called upon to help Engineers in “making equipment better” or “making it work properly”.

One of his greatest qualities was that he remained a child at heart, often to the chagrin of his Bride. He grew up with very little but made sure that his kids had all the cool toys. Most were second or third hand, but he always managed to get them running just right. He was a dune buggy, minibike, motorbike, 3-wheeler, 4-wheeler, go cart loving dude. The only thing better than him enjoying these toys, was when he shared these experiences with his children, nieces and nephews. His children always had a trampoline, even when the eldest son (and his friends) would climb onto the roof of their home, jump off and land on it…all the while impressing the neighborhood kids that were watching and also while the 4-year-old sister threatened to tell on all of them.

Bobby was a fisherman and a fisher of men. He was a man of little wealth but great faith. He has given the shirt off his back, as well as given his last dollar in the offering plate. His children grew up knowing that Sundays (both services) and Wednesday nights were for church. He was a singer, songwriter, musician and a minister. He had the ability to have you laughing one minute and crying the next, every time he stood behind a microphone.

He managed to survive his greatest of heartbreaks when he had to bury his wife and 3 of his children. He often succeeded in not crying when he talked about Linda and the Boys…but any time he talked about how good God was, he was immediately in tears.

God blessed Bobby many times during his life. One of the last blessings was meeting Joan Gordon, a True Southern Belle. Joan doted on him and brought much happiness to his life. She was by his side during every illness and even while he took his last breath.

Bobby lived a full life, a good life, a sometimes-sad life, but definitely a blessed life.
