Boley Kent

March 20, 1949 — August 19, 2024

Pearl

Marion Frederick Kent, age 75, affectionately known as Boley, passed away peacefully Monday, August 19, 2024, in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 24th followed by funeral service at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church Brandon, 309 S. College Street in Brandon, MS. Graveside service will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS.

Boley was born March 20, 1949, to Orrell Frederick and Burleen Toney Kent in Tylertown, Mississippi. He graduated from Picayune High School and Mississippi State University and went on to work for the Boys and Girls Club and Southern Office Cleaning.

After his brain surgery in 1996, Boley volunteered his time at the Critical Care Unit at Baptist Hospital, Hederman Cancer Center and with the Nursing Home Ministries in Brandon, MS. Boley was awarded Volunteer of the Year for his work with the Nursing Home Ministries in 2014. He was an encourager to all and used his gifts from the Lord to minister, serve and love all he encountered.

Boley faithfully served as a deacon many years at Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson and continued his service and ministry at First Baptist Church Brandon for the last 20 years.

Mississippi State sports, eating out (especially enjoying a good shrimp po’boy and gumbo), a good bowl of ice cream and spending time with his grandchildren and family brought Boley the most joy. He used every opportunity presented to him to spread the word of Jesus and he loved people big. He was the “best of the best” and was the best Papa, dad and husband we could have prayed for.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Orrell Frederick Kent and Burleen Toney Kent, and sister, Marilyn Kent Bruister.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of 50 years; daughter Carrie Kent of Pearl, MS and granddaughter Kelley; daughter Christy (Jeremy) Campbell of Brandon, MS and grandchildren Kent Malone, Ashlyn Malone, Ember Campbell and Cole Campbell; brother David (Holly) Kent of Weaverville, NC and sister Theresa (Jon) McEwin of Grayson, GA; brother-in-law James Bruister of Tylertown, MS.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Ruth Fredericks and Dr. John Biggs for overseeing Boley’s care through the years and for their support of our family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church Brandon to continue the ministry of growing the Kingdom of God or to the Nursing Home Ministries.
