Funeral services for Mrs. Bonnie Jean “Mama Jean” Beard were conducted at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from the Ott & Lee Chapel with Bro. Earl Clark and Bro. Mike Everett officiating. Interment followed in the Morton Memorial Gardens under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Visitation was held Monday, May 25, 2015 from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Beard, known as “Mama Jean” was born January 9, 1924 in Scott County to her parents George Allen and Eunice Chambers Everett and passed away at her home Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the age of 91. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Morton. Favorite past times were sewing, crocheting, doing needle point, reading and cooking. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and visiting with her extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Mack Beard; three children: Maxine Sullivan, Larry Beard, and Archie Beard; her parents and her siblings: Harmon (Polly) Everett, Louise (James) Coker, O Dell (Jack) Gilmore, Knox (Jean) Everett, and Josie (Ernest) Irby.
Survivors include four children: Roger (Maggie) Beard of Newton; Billy (Martha) Beard of Morton; Jenifer (James) Bowman of Pelahatchie and Ann (Butch) Britt of Morton; one daughter-in-law: Janice Stroup of Cochran, GA; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Larry Beard, Ladd Noel, Scotty Bowman, Gary Beard, Justin Beard and Nicholas Meek.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 110, Morton, MS 39117.
