Brenda Kaye Quick Hawthorne, 73, passed away February 26, 2022. She was born on May 26, 1948, to Albert Ray Quick and Frances Christine (Sanders) Quick, in Carthage, MS. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church in Florence, MS with interment at Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Richland, MS. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm Monday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS and from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Tuesday at the church.

Brenda graduated from Gibson High School in McComb, MS, and attended Southwest Junior College. She married Seaman Recruit Grover Kelly Hawthorne, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. S. (Sammy) Hawthorne of Plain, MS, on March 30, 1968. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage.

Brenda worked as an Office Manager for Lightheart Sanders & Associates, formally Pace & Company, for 16 years, prior to retiring in 2015. Before retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, spending summers at deer camp, and sharing her faith through a testimony of love. After retirement, she cherished her time as a full-time wife and homemaker, and part-time retired caregiver to her six grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Grover Kelly Hawthorne; her daughter Candice Joan Hawthorne Hilton; her six grandchildren: Kierstyn Celeste Hilton Washington and spouse Q. P. Washington, Connor Jay Hilton, Kylie Joan Hilton, Memphis Wade Coats, Phoenix Quinn Coats, and River Thomas Coats; her great grandchildren: Lukas Khalid Washington and Leona Kehlani Washington, due August 2022; her sisters: Wilma McMillan, Judy Dooley, and Rita Hobgood; her brother Francis Quick; and her foster children Michelle Bethany Henley and Randy Bethany. She is preceded in death by her brother Bobby Quick; her sisters Joan Daniel and Linda Parent; and her foster son, Michael Bethany. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Connor Hilton, Scott Coats, Ivan Thompson, Buster McMillan, John Larry McMillan, Ricky Hawthorne, Glenn Hawthorne, and Jeffrey Dooley. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler, Memphis, and River Coats.

Brenda was so well loved. Throughout her life she was a mother figure to many young men and women in Central Mississippi, through her service in church and in the community, she will be remembered for her selflessness and her love for others. Brenda’s most important accomplishment was her faith in Christ and the testimony her life provided to that faith. She will be missed on this Earth by all who loved her and celebrated as a praying woman who loved so many people fiercely.
