Mrs. Brenda Jane Bates, age 62 went home to eternal glory on September 20, 2015 from the Bedford Care Center in Newton, MS. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the Ott and Lee Chapel in Morton with Rev. John Goodhue and Rev. David Brewer officiating. The visitation was held Monday, September 21, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. And the graveside service was held at the Groverton Presbyterian Church Cemetery following the formal funeral service on Tuesday.
Mrs. Brenda Bates was born to her loving parents Ralph and Winnie “Hannah” Dalehite, June 24, 1953 in Eupora, MS. She had been a resident of Morton for most of her adult life and she was a member of the Jesus Name Church of Morton, MS. Brenda loved fishing, reading her Bible, crossword puzzles, being with her family, sitting on the porch drinking coffee, and one of her greatest joys was writing poetry of which three of her poems had been published by major publishing companies.
Brenda Bates was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Jones Bates; and her parents Ralph Dalehite and Winnie "Hannah" Dalehite.
She is survived by her four children; son, Dale Bates (Gina) of Forest, MS; daughter, Diane Gatewood (Randy Jackson) of Forest, MS; Chris Bates (Jena) of Conahatta, MS; Tommy Bates (Tazan) of Morton, MS; one sister, Louise Tompkins; two brothers, David Arnold and Tony Hollie; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a host of friends and a family of faith.
Serving as pallbearers were Matthew Bates, Christopher Bates, Eric Gatewood, Chris Gatewood, Adam Gatewood, Thomas Jones and the honorary pallbearers were Daniel Bates, Josh Bates, and J.J. Lott.
The family request that any memorials in honor of Mrs. Brenda Bates be sent to the Jesus Name Church of Morton at 1161 Kalem Rd., Morton, MS 39117.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
