Caray "Ray" Thompson

October 17, 1937 — April 11, 2018

Mr. Caray "Ray" Thompson, age 80, and a lifelong resident of the Leesburg community,   passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from the Leesburg Baptist Church with Rev. Jon Marc Vanlandingham and Rev. Joel Oster officiating. Interment will follow in the Leesburg Baptist Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at  the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

Mr. Thompson was born on October 17, 1937 in Scott County.   He was a longtime faithful member of the Leesburg Baptist Church.  He was  a residential painter.   He was known for his work all over central Mississippi.   He loved his family, as his greatest joy was being with his children and grandchildren.  He loved people and truly loved his Lord.  His Christian character was evident to all who knew him.  He loved fox hunting, fishing, bowling and in his earlier years enjoyed men's  softball.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Felix and Pauline Shoemaker Thompson;  son: Robby Thompson; daughter-in-law: Michelle Thompson; and a granddaughter: Railey Claire Thompson.

Survivors include his wife of almost 61 years: Mrs. Merle Thompson of Morton; one son: Ronny Thompson and his fiance' Diane Tull of Morton; two daughters: Pennye J. Dillard and her husband Bill of Pelahatchie, Paula Evans and her husband Ricky of Morton, daughter-in-law Gail Thompson of Brandon;  a legacy of  eleven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; one sister: JoAnn Perkins of Brandon.

Pallbearers are Andy Thompson, Lane Evans, Sam Dillard, Zach Evans, Michael Smith, Zach Collins, Wilson Dunn, and Austin Shoemaker.

Honorary Pallbearers  are  Blake Thompson, Bryce Thompson, W.E. Franklin, Colon Jack Gordon, C.L. Presley, Leon Harrell, James Claude Thompson, Ricky Shoemaker, Rory Garcia, Tim Gilbert, Melvin Parker, Wayne Perkins, Charles Trest, Jessie Ray Parker, and Wesley Parker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials  may be made to Leesburg Baptist Church.
