Carol Carson Noel McLaurin, 57, died November 19, 2010, at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon. Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted by Rev. Geoffrey Joyner at Brandon First United Methodist Church on Monday, November 21, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment in the McLaurin family plot at Old Brandon Cemetery.
Carol was born on November 13, 1953, in Jackson, Mississippi, the daughter of the late John Armstead Noel and the late Estelle Carson Pullen Noel. She was educated in the Jackson Public Schools and graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree, where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and played on the varsity tennis team. She received her master’s degree in Speech Pathology from M.U.W. in 1976. She was a member of the Debutante Club of Mississippi and was presented in 1972. She worked as a bridal consultant for McRae’s Department Stores in Jackson until her marriage.
On June 24, 1977, Carol married John Campbell McLaurin, Jr., of Brandon and moved to Rankin County where she lived until her death. A homemaker, she was active in community affairs, including belonging to the Junior League of Jackson, in which she was currently a sustaining member after seventeen years of active service as a docent at the Old Capitol, and as a volunteer at the Dogwood Speech School and for the “Simply Me” nursing home visitation program.
Additionally, she was a member and former President of the Brandon Garden Club, winning during her tenure in 1980-1981 the state award for “Best Club in the Natchez Trace District”. She was a member of the Rebecca Cravat Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as chaplain, and the Ralph Holder Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She held various senior offices in the Mississippi State Society of Children of the American Revolution, in support of both of her children who held a number of state offices in that organization.
Until her marriage, she was a member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church in Jackson. Subsequently, she joined the Brandon First United Methodist Church where she maintained her membership until her death.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Michael Morgan Mockbee III; and her niece, Brandi Chase Noel.
She is survived by her husband, John Campbell McLaurin, Jr., her son, John Campbell McLaurin III, and wife, Mary Claire, of Little Rock, Arkansas; her daughter, Elizabeth Carol McLaurin, of Madison; her sister, Estelle Noel Mockbee, and husband Mike, Jr., of Jackson; her brother John Armstead Noel, Jr., and wife, Deborah, of Clinton; her nephew, William Bryan Noel, of Ft. Myers, Florida; her aunts, Mrs. Russell C. (Catherine Pullen) Davis and Mrs. Paul R. (Martha Wadlington) Pullen, both of Jackson; her uncle, Robert A. Noel, and wife, Ellie, of Indianapolis, Indiana; numerous cousins, including Miss Ann Robinson King, of Birmingham, Alabama; and her mother-in-law, Mrs. John C. (Janet Fox) McLaurin, of Brandon.
The family expresses utmost appreciation to Dr. David T. Flemming; ICCU nurses including Angel, Tammy, and Martha; and especially to Alvergia (Sudie) Hines, Carol’s longtime companion and caregiver, for their many acts of kindness, love, and support.
Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund at First United Methodist Church in Brandon.
