Carol Anne Caviness Coward Harrison, age 69, passed away at her home in Brandon, Mississippi after an extended illness. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 16th from 4:00pm-7:00pm and Wednesday, April 17th from 11:00am-1:30pm at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm at Crestview Memorial Gardens on Star Rd. in Brandon MS with burial to follow. Rev. Trey Jones will officiate the service. Pall Bearers are Jerry Gillis (son-in-law);Jerry Torrence (cousin); Jim Caviness (Brother), Chuck Harrison (nephew), Ty Harrison (nephew), David Harrison (nephew), and honorary pall bearer Carlo Martella (friend).
Mrs. Harrison is survived by her spouse Roger of 43 years. She is survived by her children Mary Alisa Harrison Gillis (Jerry), and granddaughter Mary Margaret, Samantha Rubye Harrison, Roger Dale Harrison Jr. & granddaughter Peyton Grace. Carol was preceded in death by her parents George Haward Coward of Branch, MS and Patricia Bounds Coward of Greeneville, TN. She was also preceded by her biological father William Jackson Caviness, Jr of Ft. Pierce, FL.
She was born on March 9, 1950 in Ft. Pierce, FL but spent many of her early years in the Greeneville, TN home of her mother. Upon her return to Mississippi, she graduated from Pearl High School. She attended HJC and completed studies at UMMC for Respiratory Therapy. She was employed as a Respiratory Therapist and Neurodiagnostic Technician for 42 years. During her career, she worked in many areas and served in leadership roles as director and supervisor at different healthcare facilities. She retired from the VAMC. Carol remained active in the NARFE organization for federal employees. She served as Registrar and volunteered with the organization.
Carol was an accomplished seamstress and a professional of a variety of other arts. Her fondest memories were working with Beverly’s School of Dance on stage backgrounds, costumes, & floats. She was humbled when she was honored with a dedication for her work at the 50 year alumni recital. In addition, she worked many other events doing decorations and event planning. In later years, she began a new career of candy making Carol’s Creations. Carol was an active member of Crossgates United Methodist Church. She especially enjoyed sewing costumes for the Easter drive through and painting scenery. She was a member of UMW where she was awarded special mission recognition for her work.
In her spare time, she enjoyed having tea, visiting tea rooms in different places and collecting tea pots. Her favorite destination spot was London. She had many priceless memories of going to Camp Skyline with her daughter Alisa, watching her daughter Sam ride horses, and enjoying her son Roger work A/V at events. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
