Born April 10, 1922, Mrs. Shoemaker grew up in the Branch community. She attended the old Branch School.
She was known by many names, but most of the grandchildren called her Mamaw Cat. Soon other people began to call her that. Mamaw Cat loved people. Especially her family, becoming a prayer warrior. She was always willing to help others when needed. Most of the need was for a babysitter, often picking them up from school. She always made sure they  had a snack. She was a woman of prayer and loved to read her Bible until macular degeneration robbed her of her ability to read. Every day of her life she quoted Psalm 23. It was the last thing she heard before leaving this world for her heavenly home.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Shoemaker; parents, Joe Thompson and Alma Parker Thompson; siblings, Felix (Pauline) Thompson, Jimmy Joe (Christine) Thompson, Shelby (Elizabeth) Thompson, William E. (Charlotte) Thompson and Laura (Charles) Burns; brothers-in-law, Herbert Cooper & Norman Huggins; daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Shoemaker.

She is survived by her children, William R. “Ricky” Shoemaker and wife,  Sandra of Leesburg and Susan Diane Shoemaker Cook and husband, Jackie of Kokomo; siblings, Julius C. Thompson (Carolyn) of Madison, Oleta Cooper of Morton, Peggy Huggins of Leesburg; 8 grandchildren: Justin (Shelby) Southerland, Jeni Rhea Shoutherland (Kent Delorenzo), Scott (Stacey) Shoemaker, Tony (Shay) Shoemaker, Brian Shoemaker, Kim (Heath) Leonard, Len (Tracey) Cooke & Lorie (Glen) Hendry.  20 great grandchildren, Austin, Lauren, Ana Layne, Christina, Victoria, Britney, Tre’ and Mollie Joe Shoemaker, Jordan (Cody) Maske, Logan (Menger) Cooke, Paisley Windham, Kelsey Bates, Jaiden & Ashtyn Southerland, Jordan Roemele, Kaden & Jackson Dale, Alexis &  Christopher (Jenny) Hendry, Taylor Berry; 1 great great grand: Jovie Shoemaker;  and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
