Cecil Otis Parker, age 89, a resident of Lawrence, Ms. Passed away Saturday January 22, 2011 at Infinity Hospice in Marion, Ms following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm Sunday January 23, 2011 from the Ott & Lee Chapel of Forest with interment to follow in the Pine Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
Rev. Larry Laird and Rev. Victor Bugg will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held from 1pm to 3pm Sunday January 23, 2011 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Forest, MS.
Mr. Parker retired as a paint contractor in 1988. He was a member of the Pine Ridge Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Early in Mr. Parker’s adult life, he served his county in the United States Army. He was among the first troops to arrive on Pearl Harbor shortly after the attack. Mr. Parker served in the Pacific Islands during this time and encountered direct contact with the enemy on the Ryukrus Islands.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie S. “Jack” Parker and Annie Weeks Parker, his first wife Elsie Permenter Parker, two brothers Clark Parker and Howard Parker, and two sisters Orene Robinson and Christine Posey.
Mr. Parker is survived by his wife Jean Strait Parker of Lawrence, Ms. He is also survived by his 5 children Carol Nelson and her husband Benny of Newton, Ms., Danny Parker and his wife Sherry of Lawrence, Ms., Janice Valentine and her husband Billy of Conehatta, Ms., Pamela Ferguson and her husband Richard of Meridian, Ms., and David Parker and his wife Andrea of Lawrence, Ms., and his wife Jean’s children Delia Harrell and her husband Lesley of Collinsville, Ms., Mark Strait and his wife Shawn of Hickory, Ms., and DeLaine Sanford and her husband Gary of Decatur, Ms. Other survivors include one sister Jenene Davis and her husband Tommy of Pearl, Ms. And Artis Parker and his wife Barbara of Olive Branch, Ms. Mr. Parker leaves a legacy of 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
