Charles Elbert Bell, M.D., 86, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2016 from 2pm-5pm and Monday, March 21, 2016 from 10am-10:45am at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 11am on Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, MS with burial to follow in the Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS.
Dr. Bell was born on Dec. 9, 1929 in Marks, MS to the late Charlie Miles Bell and Irene Evans Bell. He graduated from Pope High School in Panola County, MS, completed his pre medical studies at Ole Miss and was a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Dr. Bell did his internship at the John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, TN, completed his Psychiatric Residency at the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY, and retired after 30 years of service as a dedicated and loving Psychiatrist with the Mississippi State Hospital as the Director of the Male Psychiatric Service. Dr. Bell was a member of the Meadow Grove Baptist Church in Brandon, MS where he was a member of the Larry Lofton Sunday School Class. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Walterine Herrington Bell; two children, Charlene Broome (David) and Walter Charles “Wally” Bell (Melissa); six grandchildren, Hannah Jean Broome, Rachel Broome, Bryan Broome, Charlie Bell, Drury Bell and Bonnie Bell and two sisters in law, Helen Hansen Bell and Nancy Herrington Rives. Dr. Bell is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas William Bell (Katie Nelson Bell) and James Floyd Bell.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Sue and Jimmy Layton, Robert Layton, Penny Beeman, JoAnn Johnson, Irene Johnson and Sylvia Weathersby for their care and support.
