Charles was born in Noxapater, MS, and spent his early childhood years in Jackson. He attended elementary school in Eupora, MS. The family moved back to Jackson when he was 15, where he was a member of the first graduating class from Murrah High School in 1956. Charles joined the U. S. Army after graduation, and enlisted in the National Guard where he served for 12 years. Charles worked for the State Times evening newspaper and in 1960 he joined the Mississippi Valley Gas Company. After 40 years of service, he retired from MVG in 1999 as a service representative. Charles was a dedicated employee of the gas company and enjoyed his work. He spent most of his time in Madison and Rankin counties where he was loved and respected by his co-workers, friends and customers in the area. After retirement he spent time as a transfer driver for several car dealerships in Brandon and Jackson.

Charles dearly loved Pat, his wife of 53 years. Known as “Poppi” by most, he was a dedicated husband, loving father and grandfather. He was loved and respected by
nieces, nephews and other family members. For the last 3 ½ years the family has walked together as one through his battle with leukemia, where they witnessed many miracles and blessings from God. They feel honored for the privilege to call this man of God Charles, Daddy and Poppi.
