Charles "Buddy" H. Shoemaker, age 77, and a lifelong resident of Pelahatchie died Monday, April 5, 2021, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Thursday, April 8, 2021, from the chapel of the OTT & LEE Funeral Home in Morton with interment to follow in the Leesburg Church of Christ Cemetery with Bro. Jack Stewart and Bro. Jerry Shoemaker. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Shoemaker was born to his parents Tommy Shoemaker and Irma Lee Bowman Shoemaker in Scott County on June 2, 1943. He was a member of the Leesburg Church of Christ. He worked in the logging industry and was a self-employed farmer. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Eva May Stewart, a son; Charles M. Shoemaker and his first wife, Betty Lum Shoemaker.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Shoemaker of Pelahatchie, five children; Marie Nelson (Ellis) of Pelahatchie, Carolyn Durr of Canton, Lea Amanda Rogers (Wesley) of Pelahatchie, Richard Dolan (Mollie) of Brandon, and Annette Lamberth (Don) of Homewood. He is also survived by three sisters; Mary Jean Smith of Pelahatchie, Nona Rhinewalt (Dalton) of Morton, Ruby Prestage of Morton, and a brother, Ray Shoemaker. He leaves a legacy of 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Danyel Rogers, Chuck Lavender, Chase Goolsby, Michael Craig, Justin Craig, Jacob Griffing, Malcolm Rhinewalt, Charles “Boudreaux” Blythe, Ritchie Franklin, and Larry Prestage.
