Chesteen Carter Jones McCaskill, 81, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family. Visitation services will be held on Monday, January 11 from 5-8 p.m. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Johns Cemetery. Bro. Tim Myers and Bro. Donnie Stuart will officiate the services.
Mrs. McCaskill was a native of Rankin County and a lifelong resident of the Johns community. She was an active member of Christ Congregational Church where she served as church treasurer for over 50 years. She was also a member of the choir and taught various classes throughout her life.
In 1955, she married the late C.T. Jones, Jr. Together they operated the C.T. Jones, Jr. General Merchandise in Johns, MS; where she served as a bookkeeper and post master for many years.
In 1984, she married the late John McCaskill. Together they enjoyed traveling, dancing and working in their garden.
She displayed her love for God by dedicating her life to serving others. Her past times were spent doing water aerobics, cross word puzzles, reading and above all spending time with her family.
Mrs. McCaskill is preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Talley Payne and Cecil Hunt Payne, both of Gulde, MS.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Jones and Tom Jones; two daughters, Tanya Jones Harrison (Carl R. “Dunie” Harrison, Jr.) and Jayne Bowman Jones; brother, Robin Carter (Cecie), all of Brandon; two step-sons, Gary McCaskill (Julie) of Mendenhall and Bob McCaskill (Cathy) of Madison; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Jones, Christopher Jones, Justin Harrison, Davey Burks, Bubba Sandifer and Chance Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Burt Knight, Ken Martin, Cecil Drake, Harry Anderson, Pete Patrick and Lee Miller.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and love to her caregivers, Ivy Ward, Ora Davis, Ebony Cornelius, Paula Humphries and Dr. Ken Morris and staff.
