Chester Ponder, 85, passed away Sat. Nov. 5, 2011 at the Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall, MS. Visitation will be held Mon. Nov. 7, 2011 from 5pm.-8pm. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 11am. Tues. Nov. 8, 2011 at the funeral home with interment to follow in the Braxton Cemetery in Braxton, MS.
Mr. Ponder was born December 24, 1925 in Mendenhall, MS. He graduated from Puckett High School in 1943. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in combat on the USS LOS (Pacific) during WWII. He was honorably discharged on February 21, 1946.
Mr. Ponder was a man of great faith, love for family, and integrity. He served as a deacon for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Everett Ponder of Braxton; two daughters, Sharon Joyce Ponder Mann (Ray), and Sonja Janette Ponder; 5 grandchildren, Desiree’ Michelle Mann Cockrell (Jimmy), Christopher Ray Mann, Chadwick Glenn Sills (Renea), Crystal Richelle Sills Lamb (Jonathan), Michael Brandon Ponder and 8 great-grandchildren.
