Mr. Chester O’neal Bland, age 62, a resident of Forest passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the V.A. Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation was held 4-8pm Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Services were held 2pm Friday, March 16, 2012 from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in the Clifton Baptist Cemetery. Rev. Ray Finney, Rev. Danny Roy Stewart and Rev. David Bryant officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mr. Bland was born in Philadelphia, MS in 1949. He worked for the Scott County Sheriff’s Department for many years and loved working and witnessing to the prisoners on the road crew. O’neal loved being in the serenity of nature hunting, fishing and camping and one of his favorite things was to take his grandchildren and teach them. He loved to teach his children’s Junior Sunday School Class at Holmes Assembly of God Church. O’neal loved his family and grandchildren and great grandchild very much and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rupert Bland and Dean Deweese Bland and sister, Pauline Lyles.
He is survived by his spouse of 37 years, Lucy Dianne Bland of Forest; 2 children, Randy smith (Michelle) of Forest and Donald Smith (Rita) of Meridian; 3 sisters, Judy Bland (Debbie) of Brandon, Linda Kay Tagert (Jessie) of Pearl and Barbara Bland (James) of Brandon; 2 brothers, Wayne Bland (Ethel) of Florence and Albert Bland (Terri) of Hot springs, AR; 5 grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Dallas Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Cody Smith and Storm Smith; 1 great grandchild, Peyton Yarbrough; coffee drinking partner, Bobby Porter and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Mack Moore, Rodney Tingle, Jimmy Gould, Marlowe Ficklin, Randy Bricker and Joe Bell. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Porter, Terry Harvey and Holmes Assembly Junior Sunday School Class.
