Clayton Robert Peoples, Jr. “Bobby”

Bobby Peoples passed away June 14, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Hospice Ministries, surrounded by his children and special friend, Debbie.

Bobby was born in Jackson, Mississippi November 28th in 1950 to Clayton and Nona Peoples of Pearl.  Bobby attended Pearl High School and graduated with the class of 1968. After high school, Bobby attended Hinds Junior College and joined the Air National Guard where he served 6 years. Bobby attended Mississippi State University and began a life-long career in the insurance industry. In 2016, he celebrated 30 years as President and CEO of Group Services of Mississippi, a company he established and founded in 1986.

Bobby also had a life-long love of music. He briefly owned a record store and was known for his impressive collection of vinyl. Bobby was currently serving on the board for the Mississippi Blues Commission, appointed by Governor Phil Bryant.

Bobby was a Mississippi State sports enthusiast. He loved all things Mississippi State. Even after his long battle with cancer was nearing the end, he managed to raise an eyebrow hearing his son say, “Go to Hail Ole Miss”.

Bobby was best known for and was the most passionate about Rankin County politics. For more than 20 years, Bobby was instrumental in building the Rankin County and Mississippi Republican Party. He began volunteering in the Rankin County Republican party in 1993. He organized and established the first Rankin County Republican Golf Tournament. He was also fundamental in organizing and volunteering at the Rankin County Republican annual banquets, particularly selling tables and recruiting sponsors. His greatest talent was raising money. Bobby organized Republican primaries and served on the Rankin County Executive committee for 16 years. During his tenure, he was chairman of the fundraising and nominating committees. Bobby served as a representative for Rankin County on the State Republican committee for 8 years.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Peoples and his mother, Nona Peoples.

Survivors include: daughter, Kristin Peoples Bain (Rusty) of Richland, Mississippi; son, Robby Peoples of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Christian and Amelia Whitfield; sisters, Becky White of Russellville, Kentucky; and Kathy (Leonard) Powell of Ponce Inlet, Florida.

His family will receive friends on Monday, June 18, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Ott & Lee in Brandon, MS and again on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 beginning at 10:00 AM.

To celebrate his life, the Reverend Lee Yancey will officiate the service in the chapel beginning at 12:00 noon.  Graveside service will immediately follow at Floral Hills Cemetery in Pearl, MS. Pallbearers are: Rusty Fortenberry, Kempf Poole, Josh Harkins, Ben Windham, Josh Windham, & Jake Windham.  Honorary pallbearers are: Thomas Riley Jordan & Thomas Young Page.

A reception honoring Bobby’s life will be held at Table 100 in Flowood from 2:00-4:00 PM following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Bobby’s honor to the Mississippi Republican Party, 415 Yazoo Street Jackson, Mississippi 39201.
