Clifford George Rainey, 84, and a lifelong resident of Jackson, Mississippi passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Jackson. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm Saturday, March 16, 2013 in the chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Friday, March 15, 2013 and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will follow in Lakewood South Cemetery in Jackson.
George Rainey was born January 12, 1929. He attended Forest Hill High School. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. George proudly served his country during the Korean War where he was a double Purple Heart recipient. He was awarded the Bronze Star for combat duty. George served on the executive board of directors of the American Legion, Branch 112. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was also active in the DAV, AM Vets, and the Purple Heart Organization. As a successful businessman, he owned and operated Rainey’s Outboard Repair for 25 years.
He is preceded in death by his son, Aubrey Rainey.
George is survived by his wife of 29 years, Wilma Cook Rainey; brother Cecil Rainey; sister Ruth Adcock; daughter, Bonnie Rainey; son, Steve Rainey; stepdaughters, Renee McRight (Johnny), Janis Creekmore (Jeff), Diane Dana (Charles), stepson, Keith Henderson; grandchildren, Meriwalker Nipper (Justin), Jenna Lee (Pete), Laura Creekmore, April Dana, Elizabeth Dana, Charlee Dana, Mary Elizabeth Rainey, John Michael Rainey, and Rebecca Rainey; and numerous great-grandchildren.
